Ethiopia, 13 December 2025 — Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health has confirmed a new case of Marburg virus disease, the first reported in ten days, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 14.
In a statement issued on 12 December, the ministry said one additional case had been confirmed, marking the first new infection recorded since 2 December.
The ministry said the patient is currently under medical observation at Jinka General Hospital, without disclosing further details about the individual’s condition.

According to the statement, the latest case raises the total number of confirmed Marburg infections to 14 since the outbreak was first detected in Jinka town, in southern Ethiopia.
The ministry noted that a total of 1,765 laboratory tests have been conducted nationwide, confirming 14 infections. Of these, eight patients have died, while four have recovered. Two patients remain under medical treatment following confirmation of their infections.
The Ministry of Health said it has intensified surveillance, monitoring, and outbreak control measures following the new case, as part of ongoing efforts to contain the spread of the virus.
