Kenya, 16 January 2026 - Manchester City have reportedly reached an agreement to sign England international Marc Guéhi from Crystal Palace, with the clubs settling on an undisclosed transfer fee. Palace is prepared to accept the offer for their captain.
The 25-year-old centre-back, who has been a key figure and leader at Selhurst Park, is understood to have accepted the move, and personal terms with the Premier League champions are believed to be agreed.
City’s pursuit of Guéhi has intensified this month due to a defensive injury crisis. Key defenders, including Rúben Dias, Joško Gvardiol, and John Stones, are sidelined, forcing Pep Guardiola to look for reinforcements in the heart of defence.
Despite earlier reports suggesting Crystal Palace were seeking fees closer to £30–£40 million for its captain, the fact that Guéhi’s contract expires in the summer has put Palace in a position where selling now makes financial sense.
Guéhi’s departure now also prevents him from leaving for free at the end of the season, something that was widely expected before City’s late push.

Guéhi’s arrival gives Manchester City a much-needed boost in central defence at a critical time in the Premier League season. Known for his calm presence, aerial ability, and leadership qualities, the England international should slot into Guardiola’s back line as City chase domestic and European honours.
City’s defensive struggles were highlighted by recent injuries, leading to creative solutions like recalling young defender Max Alleyne from loan to help cover the shortage.
The sale of Crystal Palace's captain marks a significant moment. Guéhi has been one of the club’s standout performers and played a key role in recent campaigns, including helping them secure the FA Cup last season, a first in many years. While supporters may be disappointed to see him leave mid-season, the financial reality of his contract situation appears to have made this move inevitable.
The centre-back is expected to complete medical tests soon, paving the way for a swift move to the Etihad Stadium as City look to strengthen their squad depth ahead of key fixtures in all competitions.
