12 April 2026 - Tributes have poured in from leaders nationwide following the death of Mzee Dubat Ali Amey, remembered as a selfless and visionary leader who devoted his life to improving the lives of people in North Eastern Kenya.
Dubat Amey, a vocal elder, was until his death the chairman of the Kenya Livestock Marketing Council.
He died in a Nairobi hospital after a long illness.
He is remembered for featuring in some international news outlets covering past atrocities meted out to the people of the North Eastern region by past governments, including the Garissa Massacre, locally known as Garissa Gubay, and the Wajir Massacre.
Mzee Dubat had been advocating for compensation by the government following such atrocities.
The prominent elder also participated in Kenya’s constitutional review process at Bomas of Kenya.

The same sentiments were shared by Eldas Member of Parliament Aden Keynan.
“His demise marks the end of an era defined by principled leadership, moral clarity and a rare devotion to fostering unity and harmony within society,” said Keynan.
