Kenya, 7 January 2026 - The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has officially opened applications for placement to the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) for the March 2026 intake, offering thousands of aspiring health professionals a chance to join one of the country’s largest medical training institutions.
In a notice issued on Wednesday, KUCCPS confirmed that the application window runs from 7 January to 27 January 2026, targeting students seeking admission to KMTC’s certificate and diploma programmes across its campuses nationwide.
“Application for placement to Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), March 2026 intake, is now open. Log in to the KUCCPS System portal window to view available programmes and apply,” the notice read in part.
The exercise marks the beginning of the 2026 phased student placement process and is open to qualified KCSE holders.
Applicants are required to submit their choices online through the KUCCPS Students’ Portal at students.kuccps.ac.ke, where programme requirements and vacancies are listed.
For this intake, KUCCPS has announced 21,774 available slots spread across 36 certificate and diploma programmes offered in 98 KMTC campuses countrywide. Opportunities cut across a wide range of health sciences disciplines, responding to Kenya’s growing demand for trained healthcare workers.
Entry Requirements
To qualify for a Certificate course, applicants must have scored a minimum of C- in KCSE, alongside specific cluster subject requirements. Diploma programmes require at least a C plain, also subject to cluster qualifications.
Those seeking upgrading courses must hold a relevant certificate, while Higher Diploma applicants are required to have a diploma in the respective field.
While Kenyan citizenship is required for placement, non-Kenyan citizens are also eligible to apply for KMTC programmes under KUCCPS guidelines.
More from Kenya
Notably, KMTC has revised the entry requirement for the Certificate in Health Insurance Management, lowering the Biology or Biological Sciences requirement from D+ to D (plain). The programme supports the rollout of Social Health Insurance under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda and is offered in campuses including Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Nyeri and Webuye, among others.
Funding and Support
Students placed through KUCCPS will be eligible for Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) funding. Applicants do not need to present physical KCSE certificates or result slips, as the system verifies qualifications digitally.
KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Dr Agnes Wahome cautioned applicants against fraudsters and fake social media pages masquerading as KUCCPS officials.
“We urge applicants to only use the official KUCCPS website and authorised Huduma Centres for guidance,” she said, adding that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has already arrested suspects linked to impersonation scams.
Students experiencing challenges during the application process have been advised to seek assistance at Huduma Centres before the 27 January deadline.
Over the years, KMTC graduates have played a critical role in strengthening Kenya’s public health system, serving in hospitals, clinics and community health units across the country. The March 2026 intake is expected to further boost the healthcare workforce and support the government’s universal health coverage goals.
