Somalia, 8 January 2026 The Immigration and Citizenship Agency of Somalia has announced the launch of an immediate investigation following reports alleging the unauthorized use of Somalia’s national airspace and airports to facilitate the movement of a fugitive political figure from Yemen.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the Agency stated that it has taken note of the reports and, in coordination with relevant national authorities, has begun an investigation to verify their accuracy. The probe will also determine whether any breaches of Somali law, established procedures, or authorization protocols have occurred.
The Agency warned that if such allegations are confirmed, the actions would constitute a serious violation of Somalia’s national sovereignty and immigration regulations.
It emphasized that the facilitation of fugitives or the conduct of unilateral operations on Somali territory without lawful authorization is unacceptable.
“Respect for sovereignty and adherence to national and international legal frameworks are non-negotiable principles,” the statement said.

The press release further noted that the Federal Government of Somalia has publicly and consistently supported the call by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for dialogue in Riyadh as the appropriate political process for addressing the situation in Yemen.
Any attempt by Aidarous Al-Zoubaidi to evade this process, including through alleged external support, would directly contradict ongoing diplomatic efforts, the Agency stated.
According to the statement, should the investigation substantiate the reports, such conduct would also amount to a breach of applicable bilateral arrangements and a violation of relevant principles of international law governing the lawful movement of persons.
The Federal Republic of Somalia reaffirmed its firm commitment to the rule of law, respect for international norms, and the protection of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The statement concluded by stressing that appropriate measures will be taken in accordance with the findings of the investigation to ensure full accountability for any confirmed violations.
