Kenya, May 05, 2026 - Kenyatta National Hospital has begun transitioning to fully digital systems across all its operations, the hospital’s management has announced.
In a statement, the hospital’s CEO Richard Lesiyampe noted that the rollout of the new system was kick-started on April 15 and is expected to be completed within the next 90 days.
Lesiyampe noted that the system was customised internally by the hospital’s staff, including nurses, consultants, and other specialists, to align with the hospital’s operational needs, according to the CEO.
“For over 125 years of KNH's existence, patients have relied on outdated paper-based processes. This is no longer compatible with a modern healthcare system,” Lesiyampe said.
“Upon full implementation, KNH will deliver more efficient, transparent, and high-quality services at par with other digitised hospitals across Africa. We call on all patients and stakeholders to support this transition to ensure its successful completion,” he added.
The Acting CEO said the rollout follows three previous unsuccessful attempts since 2012 to digitise the hospital’s services, adding that despite initial delays, the new system remains operational and is stabilising.

The hospital’s management will “deal firmly” with anyone, whether within or outside the hospital, who resists the rollout of the new system, according to the CEO.
The move comes at a time when other government institutions are also transitioning to digital systems in a broader effort to be more efficient, transparent, and provide high-quality services.
Just two weeks ago, the Ministry of ICT announced plans to introduce a unified digital system to coordinate key processes across the land and construction industries.
The new system will serve as a central hub for land approvals, building permits, inspections, and compliance monitoring, according to ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo.
The proposal was put forward by senior officials from the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) during a meeting with the CS. The platform is expected to ensure applications are processed within defined timelines, according to the CS.
