Kenya, 27 January 2026 - Kisumu Central Member of Parliament Dr Joshua Oron has launched a KSh 64 million bursary allocation targeting needy students and youth seeking skills training during the current financial year.
Dr Oron said KSh 40 million of the allocation has been set aside for junior and senior secondary school students.
The remaining funds will support resource and skills development programmes aimed at empowering youths and adults pursuing vocational training. The skills component will benefit those training as drivers, motorbike riders, artisans, hairdressers, and other trades, as part of efforts to promote self-employment and reduce youth unemployment in the constituency. The MP was speaking while supervising the ongoing registration and filling of bursary application forms across the constituency.
The exercise is being conducted at several centres, including Mama Grace Onyango Social Hall, Joel Omino Primary School, Kibuye, Manyatta, Obunga and Kanyakwar villages, among others.Dr Oron said the constituency had recorded an overwhelming response, with a high number of applicants already registered, noting that the application exercise is still ongoing to allow more beneficiaries to be reached. He defended the autonomous National Government–Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) bursary scheme, describing it as one of the most effective education support programmes because it is deeply entrenched at the grassroots.“The NG-CDF bursary is one of the best tools for supporting education because it directly reaches the people who need it most. Any move to disband it or merge it with other national bursary allocations would hurt vulnerable families,” said Oron. The legislator also pledged to continue supporting the education sector by investing in more school infrastructure projects across Kisumu Central to improve learning environments and expand access to education. In a political pitch to residents, Dr Oron urged them to consider him for the Kisumu gubernatorial seat, citing the numerous development projects he has initiated during his tenure as MP.Kisumu KANU branch secretary Milton Obote lauded Oron’s development record, saying the MP had demonstrated commitment to service delivery and grassroots development.

Some of us received posho mills, others were given start-up capital for businesses, widows had their houses built, and many livelihoods were supported. We owe you a debt of gratitude, and it is time to pay back. We will vote for you,” the MYWO leadership declared amid ululation. The women described Oron as a humble, philanthropic leader who means well for all residents and pledged to mobilise support for his leadership ambitions.
