Kenya, May 02, 2026 - Kenya is set to host the first-ever Diplomatic Conference on the Administration and Management of Privileges and Immunities, the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs has confirmed.
The Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary officially launched preparations for the conference on Friday. The event is scheduled for June 25–26, according to the ministry.
The conference is expected to provide a high-level platform for stakeholders to deepen discussions on the legal, policy, and administrative systems governing diplomatic privileges and immunities.
According to the Ministry, Kenya’s host state credentials are anchored in a solid institutional framework that facilitates the effective functioning of diplomatic missions and international organisations.
“It underscores the country’s leadership role in advancing dialogue on the practical application of privileges and immunities within an evolving global diplomatic landscape,” the ministry stated.
Kenya has long served as Africa’s diplomatic capital, hosting a range of international offices.
The ministry estimates that the country hosts about 25,000 individuals working for major organisations, including the United Nations and its agencies, as well as other intergovernmental and international organisations.

“Ongoing reforms under the UN80 process are expected to see the relocation of three additional UN agencies to Nairobi, expanding this community to well over 35,000,” the Ministry stated.
In his remarks during the preparation meeting, the PS emphasised that the country remains committed to fulfilling its obligations under international law and maintaining its position as a preferred hub for the diplomatic and international community.
The announcement comes a week after the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) signed an agreement with the government to establish its first regional office in Nairobi.
Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi and AFC President and CEO Samaila Zubairu signed the agreement on Friday in a ceremony witnessed by President William Ruto.
Through the agreement, AFC plans to mobilise over US$2 billion in the region over the next three to five years, targeting key sectors including transport corridors, energy, special economic zones, and digital infrastructure.
