Kenya, May 23, 2026 - Kenya Power has unveiled an electric vehicle (EV) charging station in Voi along the busy Nairobi-Mombasa highway, in a move aimed at accelerating the country’s transition to clean transport.
The utility firm said the charging station located along the A109 corridor will support businesses and motorists using the route by providing convenient access to EV charging services.
Speaking during the launch, Kenya Power Taita Taveta County Business Manager Stephen Okumu said the project marks a major milestone in promoting sustainable mobility in the country.
“This is a strategic step toward sustainable mobility for businesses and individuals travelling along this vital corridor,” said Eng Okumu.
He added that the facility will give motorists and EV operators an opportunity to experience electric mobility while supporting the company’s broader green energy agenda.
“We welcome members of the public to test and engage with the station as part of Kenya Power’s commitment to green energy solutions,” he said.
The launch was part of the ongoing Nairobi–Mombasa–Nairobi EV Parade, an awareness campaign bringing together electric mobility players to promote adoption of electric transport in Kenya.
The parade is expected to culminate in the Grand Nairobi EV Parade on Sunday ahead of the 4th Annual E-Mobility Conference and Expo 2026 scheduled for June 4 and 5 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi.
Kenya has seen growing interest in electric mobility as both government and private sector players push for adoption of cleaner transport technologies amid rising fuel costs and climate concerns.
Several companies have in recent years invested in electric buses, motorcycles and charging infrastructure, with stakeholders citing Kenya’s high share of renewable energy in electricity generation as a key advantage in supporting e-mobility.
