Kenya, 21 August 2026 - The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has pledged to strengthen its collaboration with international law enforcement agencies to combat the ever-expanding threat of narcotics trafficking networks.
The commitment was made by senior officials of the agency on Friday, led by its Director General Mohamed Amin and the head of the National Anti-Narcotics Investigations Bureau, Samwel Laboso, who are participating in the 40th International Drug Enforcement Conference (IDEC) in Argentina.
The officials noted that the agency will work closely with national, regional and international law enforcement partners to combat narcotics trafficking, with the partnership focusing on strengthening intelligence-led investigations and enhancing operational cooperation, according to the agency.
“The participation underscores the implementation of H.E. President Dr. William Samoei Ruto’s directive to strengthen the national response to the narcotics menace through enhanced inter-agency collaboration, intelligence sharing and international partnerships,” DCI stated.
“As narcotics trafficking continues to evolve into an increasingly sophisticated transnational threat, the DCI remains committed to disrupting drug trafficking networks, dismantling criminal enterprises, pursuing their illicit proceeds and protecting communities from the devastating effects of narcotic drugs,” it added.
The announcement comes a day after detectives from the National Anti-Narcotics Investigations Bureau (NANIB) stationed at Narok Police Station apprehended three traffickers and seized cannabis sativa valued at approximately KSh3.3 million.
The detectives, who had received “credible intel” about the drugs, spearheaded a raid in the Narok main quarry area, where the suspects had established a makeshift structure to store the goods.
“The operation not only recovered a substantial quantity of narcotic drugs but also led to the recovery of assorted packing materials used for the illicit trade,” the authority stated on Thursday.
“The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing processing before their impending arraignment. Meanwhile, the seized narcotics have been securely detained as exhibits,” it added.
