Kenya, 8 July 2026 - The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Nairobi has strongly condemned what it termed "aggressive military strikes" carried out by the United States on July 8, accusing Washington of a "flagrant violation" of the End-of-War Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries.
In a press release issued Wednesday, Press Release No. 6, the Iranian Embassy said U.S. military forces launched airstrikes in the early hours of July 8 against multiple monitoring and surveillance installations along Iran’s southern coastline.
According to the statement transmitted by Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the attacks constitute "an outright violation of Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the Charter of the United Nations, and a clear breach of Paragraph 1 of the End-of-War Memorandum of Understanding," which mandates the cessation of all military operations.
The embassy further accused the U.S. of compounding the escalation with "hostile measures," including the Treasury Department’s decision on the night of July 7 to revoke Iran’s oil export license. The embassy said the license had been upheld under Paragraph 10 of the same Memorandum.
Iran also cited what it called "persistent interference" by Washington in Iranian arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz, and "ongoing military aggression and terrorist actions by the Zionist regime against Lebanon."
The statement said these actions have "rendered essential provisions of the End-of-War agreement effectively null and void," and that "the United States, as the party that has repeatedly broken its pledges, bears sole and full responsibility for the dangerous consequences arising from this escalation."
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the "binding international legal obligation" of all states — particularly Gulf neighbors — to prevent their territory, airspace, or facilities from being used by "aggressor forces targeting the Islamic Republic of Iran." It warned that "any form of assistance or collaboration in acts of aggression against Iran shall be deemed complicity and participation in the crime."
The ministry said it has drawn the attention of the United Nations Security Council and the UN Secretary-General to their "Charter-based responsibilities in safeguarding regional and international peace and security."
Reaffirming its position, Tehran said Iran’s armed forces "will not hesitate to exercise their inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter."
"They will resolutely defend Iran’s territorial integrity, national sovereignty, and security, and will not refrain from targeting the very sources and origins of any aggression," the statement concluded.
The press release was issued by the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Nairobi, which also serves as the Permanent Mission to the UN Office at Nairobi, including UNEP and UN-Habitat.
There was no immediate comment from the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi on the allegations as of press time.
