Somalia, 26 June 2026 – Hirshabelle President Ali Abdullahi Hussein Gudlawe, said he will seek re-election in the next Hirshabelle election.
Speaking in an interview with Dawan Media’s Mizaan Podcast, Gudlawe said he was a candidate and was affiliated with the ruling JSP party.
“I am a candidate,” Gudlawe said. “I am running with the JSP party.”
Asked whether the JSP party had formally recognised him as its presidential candidate for Hirshabelle, Gudlawe said the matter had not yet been decided.

Guudlaawe said his administration welcomed all political parties seeking to operate in Hirshabelle, adding that several parties had already opened offices in the state capital, Jowhar.
He said parties including Iftiin Qaran, Sincad and JSP had established offices in Jowhar, and that Hirshabelle authorities were ready to facilitate political activity.
Gudlawe said political stability and cooperation with Somalia’s federal government had helped Hirshabelle implement development projects during his time in office, arguing that conflict with the federal government would have slowed progress in the state.
He said Hirshabelle’s interests were better served through close cooperation with the federal government, particularly as the state needs investment in infrastructure and local development.
