Somalia, 12 June 2026 – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has reiterated his government’s willingness to resume talks with opposition leaders, saying dialogue remains the most effective way to address political differences in the country.
Speaking on Miizaan Podcast, of Dawan Media, the president said the federal government has consistently invited opposition figures to discussions on constitutional reforms, elections and other national issues.
He said the government organised multiple meetings with former presidents, former prime ministers and other political stakeholders after he returned to office in 2022.
According to Hassan Sheikh, the government sought to create an open platform where political actors could present alternative proposals and negotiate areas of disagreement.
The president said Somalia’s political challenges should be resolved through continuous engagement, even when consensus is difficult to achieve.
