Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has appointed Abdirashid Mohamed Dualle as Deputy Minister of Education and Ahmednur Sheikh Mohamed as State Minister for Planning, Investment, and Economic Development, following the resignations of State Minister Abdirashid Jire and Deputy Minister Ahmed Osman Ibrahim.
The resignations, citing dissatisfaction with unmet federal goals, highlighted divisions with Jubaland, as both outgoing ministers hail from the state.
Jubaland State leader Ahmed Mohamed Islam has announced plans to proceed with presidential and parliamentary elections by month’s end, distancing his administration from the outcomes of last week’s NCC meeting in Mogadishu.
Puntland and Jubaland’s absence from the meeting reflects ongoing frictions with the federal government, which is advocating for a one-person, one-vote election in 2026 despite security challenges and political opposition.
