United States, 13 May 2026 - Google has announced a new line of laptops, Googlebooks, which it says will allow users to interact with and access its advanced AI features more easily.
The company, which first introduced Chromebooks over 15 years ago for a cloud-first computing era, is working with companies such as Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo to ensure that the laptops are available in a variety of shapes and sizes.
The company said that the laptops have been designed to effectively accommodate Gemini intelligence, which it says will drive “personal and proactive help” across tasks, workflows, and device interactions.
“We’re bringing together the best of Android, which comes with powerful apps on Google Play and a modern OS that’s designed for Intelligence, and ChromeOS, which comes with the world’s most popular browser,” the company stated.
“The result is Googlebook: a new category of laptops built with Gemini’s helpfulness at its core, designed to work seamlessly with the devices in your life and powered by premium hardware.”
Some notable features of the new laptop include the 'Magic Pointer', a redesigned cursor system that will offer contextual AI suggestions when users hover over content instead of being a static tool.
For instance, a user can point to a date in an email to set up a meeting, or select two images and visualize them together, which aims to reduce multi-step tasks into a few clicks.
Another advanced feature is the ‘Create your Widget,’ which will let users create custom, personalized desktop dashboards using simple prompts.
For this, Gemini can pull information from apps such as Gmail and Calendar to create custom widgets such as travel planners that combine flights, hotels, reservations, and countdowns in one place.
A new ‘Quick Access’ feature will also allow users to browse and use files stored on their phones directly from the laptop file manager, eliminating the need for manual transfer between devices.
“Being built on part of the Android tech stack allows us to bring new innovations much faster to all our users, including now on laptops. It also lets us provide a much better experience when you have multiple devices, which more and more people have nowadays,” the company stated.
