Djibouti, 20 January 2026 A team of 24 French medical volunteers has arrived in Djibouti to provide emergency care and surgical procedures, the latest phase of a health partnership between the East African nation and French non-governmental organizations.
The mission, organized by the Toulon-based non governmental organization;m, Josy Champon, began a seven-day working visit on Sunday. The team of physicians and healthcare professionals is scheduled to provide consultations and specialized treatment through Jan. 24, focusing on underserved areas on the outskirts of Djibouti City and the Arta region.
The volunteers are operating under a partnership agreement signed with Djibouti’s Ministry of Health in March 2023. The delegation is led by Josy Champon, Deputy Mayor of Toulon and Director of the Institute of Health Sciences of the Var (IFPVPS).

During the week-long mission, the French team is also expected to meet with senior Djiboutian officials, including Health Minister Ahmed Robleh Abdilleh and the regional prefects of Djibouti and Arta.
Beyond direct clinical care, the mission includes a series of lectures and professional debates at the Higher Institute of Health Sciences (ISSS) aimed at exchanging best practices between French and Djiboutian health practitioners.
