Somalia, 9 November 2025 — The Somaliland Fire and Rescue Brigade has confirmed the death of four children in a house fire in the October neighborhood of Ahmed Dhagah District, Hargeisa.
The fire occurred at approximately 1pm today and rapidly spread through a home consisting of two rooms and a veranda.
The children, three boys and one girl, all under the age of 10, were found dead at the scene after emergency crews were able to control the blaze.
In a statement, the Somaliland Fire and Rescue Brigade said its officers "responded promptly" to the incident and managed to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures.
"The blaze was contained before it could spread to other buildings," the statement noted.
The tragic incident occurred amidst a domestic dispute between the children's parents, with the father reportedly setting the house on fire.
"The father of the children, after starting the fire, attempted to flee but was later apprehended by authorities," the statement added.
The mother was not at home during the incident. A young girl who was not inside the house during the incident also survived.
The Fire Brigade urged residence to take safety precautions seriously when handling fire in households.
"We urge the public to ensure that children are not left unattended in homes, as many tragedies have occurred due to such negligence," the Brigade stated.
Fire Brigade Chief, Ahmed Mohamed Hassan Sawaahili, extended his condolences to the grieving family and urged members public to always apply safety precautions in their homes.
, "We share in the sorrow of the family and call on the public to remain vigilant in the fight against fire-related disasters," said Sawaahili.
