Kenya, 4 April 2026 - Kenya’s flood crisis is worsening, with the number of fatalities rising to 112 as heavy rains continue to batter several parts of the country.
In a fresh advisory, the National Police Service (NPS) warned that the situation remains dangerous, especially as travel increases during the Easter holiday period.
“With 112 lives lost due to the rains as of 3 April 2026, the National Police Service appeals to all Kenyans to prioritise safety,” the statement said.
Police noted that the combination of persistent rainfall and increased movement of people has heightened the risk of accidents, urging the public to remain vigilant.
Motorists have been specifically cautioned against risky driving, with authorities emphasising the need to avoid flooded roads and observe traffic rules.
“Drive with extreme care, observe speed limits, maintain safe distances and ensure vehicles are in good mechanical condition,” NPS advised.
Pedestrians were also urged to stay alert, particularly in flood-prone areas or places with poor visibility.

The ongoing rains have already caused significant disruption, including damaged roads, blocked drainage systems and waterlogged areas, complicating rescue and travel efforts.
“As operations continue to restore damaged infrastructure… the public is urged to cooperate with authorities and avoid restricted or high-risk areas,” the police added.
Authorities have also provided emergency contacts, encouraging Kenyans to report incidents through toll-free lines and official communication channels for faster response.
The warning comes as the country grapples with the peak of the rainy season, with officials stressing that caution and personal responsibility will be key in preventing further loss of life.
