January 22, 2026 - Fafi Member of Parliament Salah Yakub has launched a zero-fees education programme under which parents will not pay school fees for their children in secondary school.
Speaking during the launch, the MP said the initiative, now in its third year, is aimed at easing the financial burden on parents while ensuring that every child in Fafi has equal access to quality secondary education.
Under the programme, all Grade 10 students joining senior schools in Fafi will have their education fully covered, including uniforms and all admission requirements. In addition, the initiative pays full school fees for all students currently enrolled in secondary schools within the constituency.
The launch was held at Galmagala Secondary School and was attended by members of the public and several local leaders.
“In simple terms, if you have a child studying in a Fafi secondary school, you will not pay a single shilling for the entire four years of their secondary education,” the MP said.
He noted that funds under the Zero Fees Programme have been disbursed directly to the respective schools to guarantee uninterrupted learning and ensure smooth implementation of the initiative.

The Fafi MP said the programme reflects his belief that education is a right and not a privilege, describing it as one of the strongest investments in securing a brighter future for children and youth in the constituency.
The launch comes amid recent political debate sparked by remarks from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who has accused some Northeastern leaders of misusing public funds.
Yakub was accompanied by ward representatives Abdullahi Brown (Nanighi) and Hassan Adan Kolosho (Fafi), the Deputy County Commissioner for Bura East Sub-County, Bura East Sub-County Education Officer Ali Madobe, Sub-County TSC officer Mohamed Abdullahi, and principals from secondary schools across the constituency.
