Ethiopia, 28 June 2026 – The European Union accused the Tigray People’s Liberation Front of breaching the 2022 Pretoria peace agreement, citing recent moves to establish a parallel regional council and enforce military conscription in Tigray.
In a statement on the situation in northern Ethiopia on Saturday, the EU said it was concerned about rising tensions and warned that iolated provisions of the Permanent Cessation of Hostilities Agreement, known as the CoHA.

The agreement, signed in Pretoria in November 2022 between Ethiopia’s federal government and the TPLF, ended two years of conflict in northern Ethiopia and set out commitments on cessation of hostilities, disarmament and restoration of services.
The EU said a resumption of talks on the concrete implementation of the agreement by all sides was urgent.
It also said it fully supported mediation efforts led by the African Union’s High Representative, former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, to achieve peace and stability.
