Ethiopia, 26 April 2026 Ethiopia's Minister Abiy Ahmed launched solar and gas facilities in Hawassa, the government said Saturday.
Prime Minister Ahmed inaugurated the projects at the Hawassa Industrial Park in the Sidama region, a statement from the Government Communication Service said.
The projects include the second phase of Toyo Solar, as well as solar equipment manufacturing plants operated by Origin and Lumintech, alongside the HZ Gas facility, the statement said.
The combined investment in the projects exceeds $176 million, positioning Ethiopia to expand its renewable energy capacity and industrial output.

The solar facilities are expected to generate a combined 11.3 gigawatts of renewable power annually, while the HZ Gas plant will produce up to 900 tonnes of oxygen, 40,000 tonnes of nitrogen and 7 tonnes of hydrogen each year.
Toyo Solar alone invested about $170 million to expand its operations, increasing its annual capacity to 4 gigawatts, the statement said.
Officials said the projects will help strengthen energy security, support industrial development and integrate Ethiopia into the global clean energy value chain.
