The meeting is considered significant and marks the beginning of several future discussions, according to the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Ethiopian ambassador was formally welcomed, reflecting the historic relationship between Ethiopia and the United States, which spans over 120 years. The meeting focused on strengthening the partnership between the two countries in areas such as peace, security, and economic cooperation, with the potential for extensive collaboration in the coming years.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia confirmed that these meetings will be regular, with both countries expecting to continue their cooperation on important issues across various sectors. Both President Trump and Ambassador Andualem expressed their mutual desire to enhance the partnership further to achieve greater progress and stability.
Binalf Andualem previously served as the Minister for Peace in Ethiopia, the second most powerful institution in the country, for several years. He was quietly removed from the position and appointed as Ethiopia's Ambassador to the United States in February 2025.
