Ethiopia To Host 2025 IGAD Media Awards
Ethiopia, 21 November 2025 - The Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Mission in Addis Ababa have delivered a joint press briefing outlining the latest preparations for hosting the third edition of the IGAD Media Awards 2025, scheduled to take place in the capital from 29 to 30 November.
During the briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Nebiat Getachew expressed the Ethiopian government’s appreciation for choosing Addis Ababa as the venue for this regional event, noting that hosting the awards reflects growing international confidence in Ethiopia’s role in supporting development-focused media and climate action.
He highlighted that the event comes at a time when Ethiopia is gaining global prominence through major initiatives such as the Green Legacy Initiative, the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), and the expansion of green corridors and riverbank development programs.

He also recalled that the international community unanimously selected Ethiopia to host the COP32 climate conference in 2027, recognizing its leadership in global climate efforts.
For his part, the Head of the IGAD Mission in Ethiopia, Abbaw Behonen, praised the national efforts underway to build a green and resilient economy, including significant investments in renewable energy and major water-sector projects.
He emphasized that Ethiopia’s climate leadership was one of the key reasons IGAD chose Addis Ababa to host this year’s awards, in addition to being a founding member and strategic partner of the organization in programs supporting climate adaptation and regional stability.
The joint briefing reflects the commitment of both sides to strengthening institutional partnership and empowering regional media to play a more impactful role in supporting development and green transformation across the Horn of Africa.
