Addis Ababa (Dawan Africa) – Ethiopia has officially announced its candidacy to host the United Nations COP32 climate conference in 2027. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed unveiled the bid during the opening of the Second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2) in Addis Ababa on Monday.
In his keynote address, Abiy highlighted Ethiopia’s environmental and regional projects, including the Green Legacy tree-planting campaign and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, presenting them as evidence of Africa’s ability to deliver climate solutions.
“As COP30 approaches, Africa must stand not as a bloc of negotiators but as a continent of solutions. We call for real investment, not charity, and proudly present Ethiopia’s bid to host COP32 in 2027,” Abiy said.
The announcement positions Ethiopia as a contender to host one of the world’s most high-profile climate gatherings, where governments negotiate global action on climate change.
The three-day Africa Climate Summit, co-hosted with the African Union Commission, is held under the theme: “Accelerating Global Climate Solutions: Financing for Africa’s Resilient and Green Development.”
