Eritrea, 15 November 2025 — The Eritrean National Democratic Coalition has welcomed recent remarks by Ethiopian Foreign Minister Gedion Timotheos, saying his call for dialogue, regional cooperation, and broader economic integration in the Horn of Africa represents a constructive shift — provided it is grounded in full respect for national sovereignty.
In a statement on Saturday, the Coalition said Ethiopia’s new messaging offers “a positive starting point” for rebuilding Eritrean–Ethiopian relations on more balanced and stable foundations, away from the tensions and positions that risk undermining sovereignty.
The statement noted that the region is undergoing a sensitive period that requires all actors to adopt a responsible approach prioritizing people’s interests and long-term stability.
The Coalition emphasized its longstanding belief that economic integration and regional coordination are essential pillars for development and peace in the Horn of Africa.
It added that closer cooperation between Eritreans and Ethiopians could serve as a model for reducing external interference and easing the persistent tensions that have shaped the region for years.
The Coalition also welcomed any official Ethiopian discourse rooted in the principles of good-neighborliness — including mutual respect, non-interference in internal affairs, and full respect for Eritrea’s borders and sovereignty.

It expressed hope that the new tone in Addis Ababa will evolve into a durable strategic approach that moves both countries away from conflict-driven narratives toward mutual interests and shared opportunities.
The statement concluded by underscoring the Eritrean people’s aspiration for stable, constructive relations with Ethiopia — based on dialogue, openness, and cooperation.
It reaffirmed the Coalition’s readiness to engage positively with initiatives that promote regional stability and open new avenues for joint development that protect Eritrea’s national interests and strengthen its regional role.
The Eritrean National Democratic Coalition is an opposition umbrella organization composed of several Eritrean political groups operating in the diaspora.
It advocates for democratic political change in Eritrea and the establishment of a state grounded in the rule of law and respect for rights and freedoms.
