Jowhar (Dawan Africa) – The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) confirmed on Monday that a 16-member Egyptian Armed Forces delegation arrived in Jowhar to conduct a reconnaissance mission ahead of the planned deployment of Egyptian troops.
The delegation, led by Maj. Gen. Islam Radwan, was received at Sector 5 headquarters by Col. Oscar Hatungimana, commander of the Burundi contingent stationed in Middle Shabelle. During the visit, the Egyptian team assessed the security situation, received operational briefings, and inspected facilities at Jowhar Airfield in preparation for the upcoming deployment, AUSSOM said.
Burundi, which has maintained forces in Jowhar for several years, is not formally part of AUSSOM.
AUSSOM officials noted that the visit forms part of broader preparations to integrate Egyptian forces into the mission’s multinational contingent supporting Somalia’s security institutions.
