DJIBOUTI (Dawan) – July 28, 2026 – Doctors in Djibouti have warned of health risks from extreme heat, particularly for people with heart conditions and other chronic illnesses, the Djibouti News Agency reported.
Dr. Mouhyadine Ahmed Omar, a cardiologist, said high temperatures increase pressure on the body and cardiovascular system, potentially leading to dehydration, severe fatigue and serious health complications, especially among people with hypertension or those taking heart medication.
He advised heart patients to take additional precautions during hot periods by drinking enough water, continuing prescribed medications and avoiding strenuous physical activity during peak heat hours.
Health professionals also encouraged the public to limit exposure to direct sunlight, especially during midday and afternoon hours when temperatures are highest, and to remain in cool and shaded areas whenever possible.
Dr. Mouhyadine urged people to seek immediate medical attention if they experience warning signs such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, nausea or unusual fatigue.
The warning comes as Djibouti continues to experience high temperatures, with health experts calling on vulnerable groups to adopt preventive measures to reduce the risks associated with extreme heat.
