United States, 29 April 2026 Disruptions to Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb threaten global trade and energy supplies, Djibouti’s UN ambassador told the UN Security Council Tuesday, state media reported.
Ambassador Mohamed Siad Doualeh told the council that rising tensions near the waterways endanger supply chains, according to ADI.
“Freedom of navigation and unhindered transit in international straits are fundamental to peace and security,” he said.

Doualeh said safeguarding sea lanes is essential for global stability and highlighted the role of coastal states in ensuring safe and uninterrupted maritime passage.
He added that vulnerable countries are disproportionately impacted by disruptions to maritime routes, particularly in terms of trade and access to energy.
Djibouti also reaffirmed its commitment to combating piracy and strengthening international cooperation through regional initiatives, ADI said.
