Ethiopia, July 31 2026 – Djibouti has strengthened consular services in eastern Ethiopia to meet seasonal demand during summer holidays, according to the Djibouti News Agency (ADI).
The Consulate General of Djibouti in Dire Dawa has expanded its assistance system to provide faster support and emergency response for Djiboutian nationals travelling to Dire Dawa, Harar and Jijiga, where thousands of visitors stay during the holiday period.
The consulate is encouraging all Djiboutian nationals to register upon arrival in its jurisdiction, enabling consular officials to respond more quickly in the event of accidents, medical emergencies or administrative difficulties. Travellers are also provided with emergency contact details for the consulate and local police authorities.
"The goal is that every citizen knows that he can count on his Consulate, day and night," Consul General Moussa Haji said, adding that emergency assistance is available around the clock, including weekends and public holidays.

The agency said the consulate has also launched awareness campaigns urging travellers to verify the validity of their travel documents, comply with Ethiopia's entry requirements and keep consular contact information readily available before travelling.
The consulate's responsibilities extend beyond routine administrative services. During July alone, it coordinated the repatriation of the remains of three Djiboutian nationals who died in Ethiopia, including two who suffered heart attacks in Dire Dawa and Jijiga and another who died in a road accident, assisting their families with the required legal, health and logistical procedures.
The consulate also provides legal assistance to Djiboutian nationals involved in administrative or judicial proceedings and offers services including travel documents, passport processing, document legalisation and mediation in administrative, family and commercial matters.
The agency said Consul General Moussa Haji credited close cooperation with authorities in Dire Dawa and neighbouring regions for enabling the consulate to respond quickly to cases involving Djiboutian citizens while supporting broader cross-border cooperation between Djibouti and Ethiopia.
