DJIBOUTI (Dawan) – August 5, 2026 – Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh has sent condolences to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali after an earthquake in Ethiopia’s Amhara Region killed nearly ten people, the Djibouti News Agency reported.
President Guelleh said the people and government of Djibouti stand with Ethiopia during this difficult period and share their sympathy with those affected by the disaster.
“The people and government of Djibouti join me in expressing their compassion and solidarity with the brotherly Ethiopian people during this difficult context of tragedy,” Guelleh said in a condolence message addressed to Prime Minister Ahmed.

The Djibouti president also expressed hope that Ethiopia would quickly overcome the consequences of the earthquake, with special thoughts for the families, relatives and friends of those who lost their lives.
The earthquake struck Ethiopia’s Amhara Region, where authorities are continuing assessments to determine the extent of the damage caused by the disaster.
