Djibouti, 29 October 2025 — President Ismail Omar Guelleh has inaugurated Al Shifa Hospital, a state-of-the-art medical facility aimed at expanding healthcare access and reducing need for overseas treatment.
Built over four years on 32,000 square meters—with 22,000 square meters of operational space—the hospital was fully financed by the National Social Security Fund (CNSS). It is equipped with modern medical technology and has 150 operational beds out of a total capacity of 220, allowing it to serve over 500 patients daily.
The facility offers a wide range of services across specialties including cardiology, oncology, gynecology, neurosurgery, nephrology, ENT, ophthalmology, general surgery, and urology.
Advanced infrastructure supports monitoring, fire safety, lighting, and temperature control, alongside amphitheaters and remote learning modules, positioning Al Shifa as a candidate for Regional University Hospital status.
Speaking to state media, on Tuesday, President Guelleh emphasized the government’s commitment to fulfilling its promises on healthcare.
“The promise we made has today been fulfilled, praise be to God,” he said.
Officials said the hospital will strengthen Djibouti’s healthcare system, improve regional medical capacity, and reduce reliance on overseas treatment, marking a major milestone in the country’s health sector development.
