Djibouti, January 18, 2026 Djibouti has launched a specialized training program for public finance officials, state media said on Sunday, as the Horn of Africa nation pushes to modernize its economic administration and improve budgetary oversight.
The workshop at the People’s Palace in the capital is part of a national strategy to strengthen the technical capacity of government departments. It is being organized by the Financial Administration Training Centre (CAF) with financial backing from the French Development Agency (AFD) and technical support from Expertise France.
The initiative comes as the Ministry of Budget seeks to professionalize its workforce following recommendations from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Through its regional technical assistance centre, the IMF helped develop a master plan that replaces long-term academic courses with targeted, short-term modules designed to reach a broader range of staff.
Abdourazack Khaireh Bouraleh, Director General of the CAF, said the current session aims to update the knowledge of officials who have participated in previous training cycles.

Djibouti is currently implementing reforms to ensure debt sustainability and more efficient public spending. Minister of Budget Isman Ibrahim Robleh has previously stated that the government aims for a "culture of results" in its 2026 fiscal strategy, which projects a robust economic growth rate of 7.4 per cent.
The CAF, established by presidential decree, has trained approximately 100 agents since its inception. Officials said the new training catalogue will be rolled out across 2026 and 2027, with the first intake of new staff members scheduled for February or March.
The government expects the program to bolster internal skills and support broader budgetary reforms intended to shield the national economy from external shocks.
