DJIBOUTI, July 31 2026 – Djibouti and Japan discussed expanding cooperation in media development and digital infrastructure as part of efforts to deepen bilateral ties in the communications sector.
The meeting brought together Djibouti's Minister of Communication, in charge of Posts and Telecommunications, Radwan Abdillahi Bahdon, and Japanese Ambassador to Djibouti Keiichi Furusawa, according to a statement from Djibouti's Ministry of Communication on Thursday.
The ministry said the discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in public communication, digital transformation and media infrastructure.
The two sides also reviewed ongoing bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in sectors that support Djibouti's digital development and public information services.

Bahdon welcomed Japan's continued support for Djibouti's development efforts and said closer cooperation in communications and technology could contribute to improving public services and expanding access to digital infrastructure, the ministry said.
For his part, Ambassador Furusawa reaffirmed Japan's commitment to supporting Djibouti's development priorities and expressed his country's willingness to deepen collaboration in the communications and digital sectors, according to the statement.
Japan has been one of Djibouti's longstanding development partners, supporting infrastructure, education, water supply, transport and capacity-building projects through bilateral assistance and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Djibouti also hosts Japan's only permanent overseas military base, reflecting the strategic importance of the two countries' relationship.
