Djibouti, 5 May 2026 Djibouti’s Foreign Affairs Minister Abdoulkader Houssein Omar praised EU maritime security cooperation as strong and built on shared values, state news agency ADI reported Monday.
Houssein made the remarks during a Europe Day event held in Djibouti City, attended by government officials, diplomats and development partners.
He highlighted cooperation in maritime security, citing the European Union’s ASPIDES operation, which is aimed at securing commercial shipping routes.

“This relationship is long-standing and covers a wide range of areas, from economic development to regional security,” the minister said, according to ADI.
Djibouti, located at a strategic entry point to the Red Sea, is seen as a key partner in safeguarding maritime routes that are vital to global trade.
Europe Day, observed annually on May 9, commemorates the 1950 Schuman Declaration, considered the foundation of European integration.
