Djibouti, 6 October 2025 – The Government of Djibouti has strongly condemned the Saturday’s attack on the Godka Jilacow Detention Center in Mogadishu, describing it as a “heinous act of terrorism.”
In a statement released Monday by the Djibouti News Agency, the government reiterated that it firmly stands with the government and the people of Somalia in fighting terrorism in the region and will continue supporting the country in its quest for lasting peace and security.
" We strongly condemn this heinous act of terrorism. Djibouti stands firmly with the people and government of Somalia in their fight against extremism, and we remain committed to supporting efforts for lasting peace and security in the region," the statement read.
The government extended its heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery for those injured.
The attack by Al-Shabab militants had targeted the high-security detention center, sparking clashes between the assailants and Somali Security Forces (SSF).
The Somali National Army managed to repel the attackers after a fierce fight, killing all the militants involved in the attack.
"The attackers used a vehicle painted in the same colours and marked with the insignia of the security forces, which made it easier for them to pass through security checkpoints," the army stated in a statement issued after the attack.
The Ministry of Internal Security also highlighted the need for stricter security measures.
"This incident underscores the need for more thorough inspection of vehicles and personnel entering sensitive locations within the capital," the ministry said.
Djibouti joined other regional and international partners in denouncing the attack.
The government of Djibouti reaffirmed its commitment to continue supporting Somalia’s authorities and people in their fight against terrorism, and to uphold efforts aimed at establishing lasting peace and stability.
