Djibouti, 17 September 2026 Djibouti and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation have discussed strengthening cooperation on key issues facing the Muslim world.
Foreign Minister Abdoulkader Houssein Omar held a telephone conversation Wednesday with new OIC Secretary-General Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, the Djiboutian News Agency reported.
It was their first discussion since the Mauritanian diplomat assumed leadership of the 57-member organisation.
Djibouti's foreign ministry said the conversation covered issues of mutual interest, including major regional and international developments affecting OIC member states.

The officials also explored opportunities to strengthen joint Islamic action and discussed the organisation's role in promoting regional peace and stability.
They emphasised the importance of maintaining close consultation and coordinating positions on issues of priority to the Muslim world, as well as defending OIC member states' interests in regional and international forums.
Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed was elected OIC secretary-general in late August, succeeding Hissein Brahim Taha.
