Djibouti, 5 May 2026 Djibouti and the African Development Bank discussed accelerating energy projects and stronger regional electricity links, Energy Ministry said Monday.
The discussions between Djibouti’s Energy Minister, Yonis Ali Guedi, and visiting AfDB delegation focused on large-scale energy projects.
The meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters, was attended AfDB executives, led by Alemayehu Wubeshet Zegeye, and officials from Electricity of Djibouti (EDD).
According to a ministry statement, discussions covered projects including the construction of a second electricity interconnection line between Ethiopia and Djibouti, a 50-megawatt solar power plant, and a power station in Nagad.
Talks also focused on advancing solar energy projects and strengthening regional electricity integration.

AfDB said the discussions are part of broader efforts to develop integrated energy projects and support the “Mission 300” initiative aimed at expanding electricity access.
The officials emphasized the need for an innovative energy mix, with a strong focus on renewable sources.
Minister Guedi described the AfDB as a “key partner” in Djibouti’s energy sector and highlighted the country’s significant renewable energy potential, including solar, wind and geothermal resources.
He also noted rising electricity demand driven by urbanization and expanding infrastructure projects, and called for increased investment to boost domestic power generation.
Both sides expressed their intention to finalize a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to advance the projects.
