Kenya, 2 July 2026 - A 38-year-old man has been arrested after detectives intercepted a Nairobi-bound bus and recovered heroin valued at approximately KSh 1 million during an intelligence-led operation along the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), detectives from the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) acted on a tip-off and mounted an operation at Taru, where they flagged down the bus for a thorough search.
The operation, which initially appeared to be a routine passenger screening, led to the discovery of a significant quantity of narcotics concealed in a passenger's luggage.
Police said the suspect, identified as Brian Tabu Owuor was seated at Seat No. 29 when detectives searched a brown bag in his possession. Inside the bag, officers recovered four sachets of heroin weighing a total of 300 grammes.
The detectives also seized KSh 95,000 in cash, which investigators believe may be proceeds from illicit drug trafficking.
Brian Tabu Owuor was immediately arrested and is currently being held in police custody as detectives complete investigations ahead of his arraignment in court.
The DCI said the recovered heroin and the cash have been secured as exhibits to support the ongoing investigations.
The latest seizure underscores the agency's sustained crackdown on transnational drug trafficking networks operating along major transport corridors linking the Coast region to Nairobi and other parts of the country. Detectives have reaffirmed their commitment to disrupting narcotics supply chains through intelligence-led operations and bringing those involved in the illegal trade to justice.
