MOGADISHU, Somalia, 14 September 2026 Bulsho Development Bank has launched a new scholarship initiative aimed at supporting university students, with applications and scholarship payments to be managed through its WAAFI digital platform, the bank said on Monday.
The KULMIYE scholarship programme is designed to make it easier for students to receive and manage scholarship funds without the need to make repeated visits to bank branches, according to an announcement issued by the bank.
Under the programme, students can apply for the scholarship through the WAAFI app. Successful applicants will receive scholarship funds through accounts linked to the bank and EVC Plus, the bank said.
The initiative is intended to simplify access to education-related financial support by allowing students to manage their funds digitally, including checking balances and transferring money between their EVC Plus and Bulsho Development Bank accounts.

Students with EVC Plus accounts can link them to their Bulsho Development Bank accounts using their personal details, including their name, gender and date of birth, the bank said.
Those who already hold a Bulsho Development Bank account can similarly link it to an EVC Plus account and access their funds through the digital platform.
The bank said the KULMIYE programme would help reduce the administrative burden associated with scholarship payments and provide students with easier access to their funds.
Bulsho Development Bank said the scholarship initiative forms part of its broader efforts to use digital financial services to expand access to financial support and improve the way education funding is delivered to students.
