Somalia, 27 October 2025 — The Banadir Regional Administration has proposed its $61 million budget for 2026, a significant 40 per cent decrease from the previous year's $101 million plan.
The announcement was made on Monday during a public consultation led by Deputy Governor and Head of Finance for Banadir, Esse Gure, who invited residents to provide feedback on the plan.
“This proposal reflects the priorities and needs of the people of Banadir, including health, education, roads, and other essential services. We want residents to see how their taxes are being used and contribute their input,” Gure said.
The 2026 proposal emphasizes transparency, accountability, and citizen participation. The move to a more conservative budget comes after the 2025 plan projected $73 million from local revenue and $28 million from grants and international aid—a total that officials have now revised down.
“Our goal is to make Mogadishu a secure, clean, and developed city with quality government services. This budget is not just about numbers; it is a commitment to the public and a promise that the taxes collected will fund services that benefit the community. Citizens’ feedback is critical to achieving this vision,” Gure added.
The public consultations is intended to guide the administration in aligning the budget with community needs.
