Somalia, 9 November 2025 — The Banadir Regional Administration has denied allegations made by the Independent National Electoral and Boundaries Commission (INEBC) that some of its civil servants were pressured to join political parties.
The administration said in a statement on Sunday that it has “no involvement” in any activity coercing staff to register with political organizations, describing the claims as unfounded.
It emphasized its commitment to democracy, multi-party politics, and the freedom of citizens to make independent political choices.

“The administration’s role is limited to supporting public awareness campaigns on voter registration, which is a national responsibility,” the statement read, adding that any such allegations should be addressed through formal legal channels before being made public.
Earlier, INEBC Chairperson Abdikarin Ahmed Hassan told reporters that the commission had received complaints from Banadir Administration employees who alleged receiving messages urging them to join political parties.
He said that such actions, if proven, would violate Somali law, which prohibits civil servants from political affiliation.
