Ethiopia, 28 June 2026 — The Head of Africa Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) El Hadji Ibrahima Diene briefed the African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf on the mission's mandate and the latest security developments in Somalia.
The Chairperson commended AUSSOM's contribution to peace, security and stabilisation efforts in Somalia, highlighting the mission's close cooperation with the Federal Government of Somalia and the countries contributing troops to the mission.

He said AUSSOM is working to protect civilians, support stabilisation efforts, strengthen state institutions and facilitate the gradual, conditions-based transfer of security responsibilities to Somali security forces.
The Chairperson also praised the courage, professionalism and sacrifices of AUSSOM personnel, reaffirming the African Union's commitment to supporting Somalia's efforts towards sustainable peace, stability and greater security self-reliance.
