Mogadishu (Dawan Africa) — An airstrike in Maqooqaha, where members of Al-Shabaab were holding a meeting, has resulted in the deaths of at least 25 individuals, according to the Somali government.
A statement from the Ministry of Defense of Somalia indicated that Somali National Army forces, specifically the Danab unit, in coordination with international partners, carried out the airstrike in Maqooqaha, located approximately 100 km northwest of Kismayo. The strike killed at least 25 Al-Shabaab members, with additional casualties evacuated for medical treatment.
The Ministry of Defense further confirmed that the meeting, which was targeted during the airstrike, was intended to plan organized attacks against Somali forces and civilians.
This operation is part of a broader campaign by the Somali government, in collaboration with international partners, aimed at weakening Al-Shabaab’s presence in southern Somalia. The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and its allies reaffirmed their commitment to continuing operations against Al-Shabaab, highlighting their collective efforts to strengthen peace and stability across the country.
