Somalia, 19 January 2026 The Ministry of Defence reported that Sunday’s foiled Al Shabaab attack in the Jabab Godane area of Middle Shabelle killed 16 militants and injured 21.
In a statement on X on Sunday night, the Ministry said the Somali National Army (SNA) eliminated 16 Al-Shabaab militants, seriously wounded 21 others, and forced the remaining attackers to flee, abandoning their weapons and equipment in Jabab Godane, Middle Shabelle region.
The Ministry of Defence confirmed that SNA was in full control of Jabad Godane area, adding that a large-scale operation to clear Al Shabaab remnants is ongoing.

The ministry reiterated that the army would continue its operations to prevent any attempts by the group to regroup or disrupt peace.
The Somali National Army has carried out several aerial strikes in the area over the past months, claiming to have killed many Al-Shabaab fighters, including high-ranking members of the group.
