The ministers emphasized their rejection of any unilateral measures that seek to alter the legal or historical status of the city, noting that East Jerusalem has been occupied Palestinian territory since 1967. They also reaffirmed their strong support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia, rejecting any action that undermines the country's territorial cohesion.
The statement comes after Somaliland announced plans to open an embassy in Jerusalem, while Israel is expected to open a diplomatic office in Hargeisa. According to Reuters, Somaliland’s representative in Israel, Mohamed Haji, said the embassy in Jerusalem will be opened soon, following Israel’s recognition of Somaliland at the end of 2025.
