Kenya, December 2025 - Aston Villa continued their remarkable Premier League resurgence with a dramatic 2–1 comeback win away at Chelsea, extending their winning streak to 11 matches and keeping the pressure on the top of the table.
Chelsea looked to be in control for much of the first half at Stamford Bridge, and they took the lead in the 37th minute when João Pedro was credited with a goal from Reece James’ corner, the ball deflecting in off the forward to put the Blues ahead.
Despite dominating possession and territory, amassing over 70% possession in the first 45 minutes, Chelsea struggled to extend their advantage.
Villa’s response came after Unai Emery’s tactical changes at the break. Substitute Ollie Watkins was introduced around the 58th minute, and just five minutes later (63’) he had restored parity, reacting quickest to a rebound off Chelsea keeper Robert Sánchez to make it 1–1. Aston Villa’s momentum continued to grow as the match progressed.
Watkins then completed a superb turnaround in the 84th minute, heading home Youri Tielemans’ corner to put Villa ahead and seal the victory. His second goal not only decided the match but also marked Villa’s 11th straight win across all competitions, equalling the club’s historic winning streak from 1914.

The result sees Aston Villa sit just three points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal, with a crucial clash between the two sides at the Emirates Stadium coming up next. Villa’s resurgence this season has captured attention, transforming them into legitimate title contenders as the title race enters its crucial mid-season stage.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s struggles continue; they have now suffered several setbacks and sit outside the top four, hampered by inconsistent form.
Enzo Maresca will be under pressure in the coming weeks, with tough fixtures still ahead.
His future however is seemingly intact as the Chelsea board assured their support after investing in a young squad.
