Kenya, 15 May 2026 - The Wajir Regional Referral Laboratory has successfully achieved reaccreditation under the ISO 15189:2022 international standards, with certification valid until 2028.
The laboratory began its quality improvement journey in 2012 through the SLIPTA (Stepwise Laboratory Quality Improvement Process Towards Accreditation) programme, starting from a zero-star rating.
Through the dedication of its staff, continuous mentorship and strong support from the County Government of Wajir and hospital management, the laboratory steadily improved and attained this significant milestone.
ISO 15189:2022 is an internationally recognized standard that confirms a medical laboratory’s technical competence and its ability to operate a quality management system that meets global requirements for patient testing and laboratory services.
