5 June 2026 - Wajir County Department of Environment on Friday joined the world in marking World Environment Day 2026 at TB Manyatta along the Isiolo–Mandera Road, opposite Wajir Stadium.
Under the theme “A Global Call for Climate Action” and the slogan “Climate Crisis and Solutions,” the event highlighted the need for urgent action to address climate change and environmental degradation.
As part of the celebrations, 200 tree seedlings were planted at the site, while another 200 were distributed to local households.

The initiative supports the national tree-growing campaign and reinforces the county’s efforts to combat desertification, strengthen climate resilience and promote sustainable livelihoods.
In attendance were officials from the National Government Administration, the County Government of Wajir, the Kenya Police Service, the Kenya Forest Service (KFS), the Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI), the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), the Probation Department and the Kenya Red Cross.
