Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The U.S. Embassy in Mogadishu announced on Tuesday via X (formerly Twitter) that the U.S. government is the largest single donor of humanitarian assistance to Somalia. Between FY 2022 and FY 2023, the U.S. contributed over $1.6 billion to support critical humanitarian response and development assistance in the country.
In addition to humanitarian aid, the U.S. has been a key supporter of the Somali government in its efforts to enhance security. This includes training and equipping special forces, known as Danab, to combat the militant group Al-Shabaab.
The significant financial and strategic support from the U.S. underscores its commitment to helping Somalia address its humanitarian challenges and improve security, contributing to the country's stability and development.
