Garowe (Dawan Africa) Commander of the U.S. Special Operations Command in Africa Col. Shane Jones and U.S. Charge d'Affaires in Somalia Justin Davis visited Puntland to discuss security and investment, the Puntland presidency said.
President Said Abdullahi Deni and Vice President Ilyas Osman Lugatoor, received the officials the presidential palace in Garowe.
A statement from the presidency said the meeting discussed the security and political situation in Somalia, cooperation between Puntland and the United States, as well as gains made in the fight against ISIS.
The two sides also discussed strengthening cooperation between Puntland and the United States in security, investment, fisheries, minerals and oil, according to the statement.

The statement also added that the meeting noted the importance of Somalia’s federal political transition period.
The discussions were also attended by members of the Puntland Council of Ministers.
President Deni was part of the collapsed Halane talks in Mogadishu, which was facilitated by the British and U.S. embassies.
